The CSIA, established in 1983, is a non-profit, educational institution, dedicated to educating the public about the prevention of chimney safety hazards.

The New York State Chimney Sweep Guild is the largest state association of chimney sweeps in the country. Through strong membership, our association promotes chimney and fire safety programs for the public as well as providing education and training opportunities for our members. Connecticut is an affiliate division of the New York State Chimney Sweep Guild. Membership is fully voluntary, and is the hallmark of a company that has made a strong commitment to the chimney service trade. The Guild affords our members extra educational opportunities to bring you the most up-to-date techniques in the services they provide. NFI’s objective is to increase public safety by establishing meaningful credentials for professionals involved in planning and installing residential hearth appliance and venting systems. NFI, established in 2002, certifies planners and installers in three hearth product categories based upon fuel type:

Our certifications are intended to fortify the experienced chimney professional’s knowledge, and to allow the experienced chimney professional the chance to prove by independent testing that they have attained a professional level of knowledge of the codes, standards and practices of a Certified Chimney Professional™ or a Certified Chimney Reliner™ and to achieve the designation. The Certified Master Chimney Technician™ is a designation achieved by veteran chimney professionals with a minimum of 8 years experience and 6 years of certification.
The F.I.R.E. Certified Inspector
The F.I.R.E. Certified Inspector Program is the first and only inspection certification within the hearth industry. This certification was developed over ten years ago and has proven to be the gold standard of this industry. This professional education provides detailed instruction on the inspection and investigation of fireplaces, chimneys, vented appliances, and vent free products. This professional program includes but is not limited to the applicable building codes, manufacturer’s specifications, product identification, listing requirements, case study, historical performance, product design and application, inspection methodology, report writing, and fire technology. This Program also includes hands-on training in actual inspection techniques, photography and basic investigation techniques. Students are required to demonstrate these skills in a lab setting by recognizing multiple defects and reporting them.
